For those that say the last election cycle was a fluke need to think again. There were five super caucuses held last Saturday in Aroostook, Franklin, Knox, Lincoln, and Sagadahoc Counties. There was a resounding message that Maine voters are not ready to go back to the last 40 years of Democratic big government thinking and want to hold the course with Republicans in the majority.
As reported by Aroostook County Republican Chairman, Hayes Gahagan over half of the attendees had never participated in a town caucus before. For the first time in more than a generation, the Fort Kent Caucus, in the heart of the Saint John Valley, included many former Democrats who have re-enrolled as Republicans. One of the most frequently stated reasons for the change was take-over of the national Democratic Party by radical liberals.
All Counties are reporting large turn outs. James Carlton, Lincoln County Chair, reported standing room only with attendance touching 400 and was one of the largest caucuses ever held there with 16 towns participating. Sagadahoc County Chair, Kyle Rogers reported tremendous success with this being the most attended in over 10 years with all ten towns participating. He also reported that all slates are filled with traditional candidates who stand for limited government while protecting the neediest and believe in setting priorities that keep the State of Maine on a sound financial footing.
Chairman Jan Dolcater from Knox County and Chairman Mike Wells from Franklin County reported identical outcomes and very “enthusiastic” participants.
Caucuses across Maine will continue throughout the week and will culminate this coming Saturday evening with the announcement of the Presidential Straw Poll winner at 7:30 at the Portland Regency. If you would like to attend or have more information email admin@mainegop.com .
