Taxpayers Forced To Continue Funding Junk Food Purchases For Welfare Recipients
Augusta – The Maine Republican Party today released the following statement in the wake of Democrats killing a common sense welfare reform to ban junk foods from being purchased with food stamps.
“Yet again, Democrats reject any common sense changes to the welfare state they built up over the past forty years,” said Maine GOP Chairman Richard M. Cebra. “Every time a responsible proposal to reform Maine’s welfare system comes up for consideration, Democrats circle the wagons and shoot it down.”
“If the taxpayers of Maine are tired of their hard-earned tax dollars going to waste because Democrats demand an ever growing and unaccountable welfare state, they need to vote Republican,” Cebra concluded. “Republicans stand for accountability and common sense, not taking the hard-earned tax dollars of Maine people and dumping it into out-of-control welfare programs that Democrats refuse to reform.”
