Maine Republican Party Calls Out Michaud for Not Telling the Truth in WGME Interview this Week Claiming Work Toward Bipartisanship

MRP Says Michaud Representing Pelosi, Not Maine
Michaud attends ‘No Labels’ Event, Makes Claims That Contradict Congressional Voting Record
Augusta – The Maine Republican Party today is calling on Mike Michaud to stand behind his words claiming that he is interested in working across party lines to end the federal government shutdown.
Michaud claimed that was what he was doing as he joined the “No Labels” group this week. In a live TV interview on WGME he claimed he was working for bipartisanship.
An analysis of Michaud’s voting record however since the government shutdown began shows that Michaud has fallen in line with Democratic House Leader Nancy Pelosi’s roll call votes. In fact, according to the non-profit, non-partisan organization Open Congress, Michaud has voted 100% of the time with Nancy Pelosi.
Among those votes were NO votes on funding veterans’ benefits; paying National Guard and Reserve personnel; funding children’s cancer research and treatment; funding Head Start programs; a bill that would have reopened Acadia National Park; and funding for SNAP and WIC food benefit programs for the needy.
Mike Michaud voted 100% of the time with San Francisco’s Nancy Pelosi and 100% against re-opening Acadia National Park and veterans.
“This is the most transparent case of saying one thing and doing another that I think I have ever seen,” said Jason Savage, executive director of the Maine Republican Party. “Mike Michaud is walking in lockstep with fiercely partisan San Francisco politician Nancy Pelosi while he stands in front of the Maine people and claims to be bipartisan. It is another instance of Mike Michaud appearing on video and just not telling the truth.”
“When it comes to looking at our elected officials, we need to make sure their actions match their rhetoric, and Mike Michaud is not telling the truth. This is Mike Michaud’s partisanship being put ahead of the Maine people, it is right in his public voting record.” continued Savage.
“In fact, it appears that Congressman Michaud is putting Maine people second behind his desire to represent Nancy Pelosi and her wealthy, liberal, San Francisco constituents as they try from Washington to prolong the pain across our country. In Maine, veterans, those wanting to use Acadia National Park, and many others are suffering because of Michaud and Pelosi’s partisanship,” Savage said.
“Congressman Michaud’s mouth says one thing and his hands on the voting button do another,” Savage concluded. “He is falling in line to do Nancy Pelosi’s bidding, and the people of Maine get nothing but hollow words.
