National Committeeman Richard A. Bennett

Richard A. Bennett, of Oxford, was elected to a four-year term as Maine’s Republican National Committeeman in 2008. A former President of the Maine State Senate, Mr. Bennett served four terms in the Maine Senate, two terms in the Maine House of Representatives and in 1994 he was the Republican nominee for U.S. Congress in Maine’s second district. Mr. Bennett has a long and dedicated history in the GOP, including his role as Vice-Chairman of the Maine Steering Committee in the 2004 Bush-Cheney campaign, and as the current Treasurer of the Olympia Snowe for U.S. Senate Campaign.

In addition to his role as National Committeeman, in 2005 Mr. Bennett was appointed by President Bush to the President’s Commission on White House Fellowships. He also serves as a director of the Maine Heritage Policy Center and of the Maine League of Conservation Voters, is a fellow with the U.S.-Japan Leadership Program, was delegate to the 1996 and 2004 Republican National Conventions, and participated as an observer to the national election in Macedonia in 2002.

Mr. Bennett has been written about in Pensions & Investments, The Daily Deal, and Barron’s, and cited in numerous publications including BusinessWeek, USA Today, Fortune, and the Wall Street Journal. A member of the International Corporate Governance Network and the Council of Institutional Investors, he has spoken publicly about governance issues at the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, Columbia University, USC Marshall School of Business, University of Southern Maine School of Business, and for The Conference Board and the Investor Responsibility Research Center, among others.

Having received his B.A. with honors from Harvard University in 1986 and his M.B.A. from the University of Southern Maine in 2000, Mr. Bennett currently serves as President and Chief Executive Officer of The Corporate Library, LLC, an independent research firm focusing on corporate governance and director/executive compensation. Earlier, he served as a consultant with Lens Governance Advisors, LLC, founded and owned by pioneering shareholder activist Robert A.G. Monks. He served as director of corporate governance for Lens Investment Management, LLC, from 1997 to 2002. Mr. Bennett is also a member and manager of The Corporate Library, LLC; an independent director of Biddeford Internet Corporation; and a non-executive director of Trucost plc.

Mr. Bennett is a private pilot, farms Christmas trees, and enjoys long-distance running. He lives in Oxford, Maine, with his wife and two children.
