Maine GOP Releases Video Exposing Democrat “Opportunity Agenda” as a 'massive spending & tax increase' agenda
History of revenue sharing increases shows Democrat Party “Agenda” would
lead to surge in property taxes, leave taxpayers holding both bags
AUGUSTA- Maine GOP released a new video today calling out the Maine Democrat Party “Opportunity Agenda” for claiming that it will provide “the largest property tax cut in Maine history.”
Maine GOP Chair Dr. Demi Kouzounas highlighted the history of revenue sharing's impact on property taxes and the fact that Democrats are making a false claim, "Democrats in Augusta claim that their plan would give Mainers the biggest property tax cut in history, but this is completely false. Increased revenue sharing has never corresponded to lower property tax rates. This video exposes that unfortunate truth. The data shows clearly that when revenue sharing sees a massive increase, increased property taxes are soon to follow. Sadly, Democrats are ignoring this history when making these false claims.”
“Further, Democrats in Augusta need to just come clean to the people of Maine about their property tax cut claims in general. Augusta Legislators have no vote on local property tax rates, and promising a property tax cut is plainly dishonest,” continued Dr. Kouzounas.
The Opportunity Agenda is nothing more than a massive government spending increase which will cost taxpayers more at both the state and local level,” concluded Dr. Kouzounas. “The only historic thing about this Democrat proposal is that it is the largest government spending increase in Maine history, and the only opportunity it offers is an opportunity to return to the Baldacci era of rolling budget crises.”

Maine GOP Statement on Maine’s Lowest Unemployment Rate Since 1976
AUGUSTA: Maine GOP Chair Demi Kouzounas released the following statement on Maine’s historic unemployment rate, "Governor LePage and Republican leaders have led Maine to a time of unprecedented economic growth.
"Maine's unemployment levels are at a sustained low with the current unemployment rate at an ALL-TIME LOW of 3.0%! The pro-growth policies of the LePage administration and pro-growth Republican legislators are doing exactly what they promised,” said Chair Kouzounas.
"Not only has unemployment decreased, but private sector employment has skyrocketed to an all time high for our great state. Additionally, employment in government jobs is at it's lowest percentage in history. Governor LePage and pro-growth Republicans are leading the way to fostering a more prosperous state.”
AUGUSTA- Maine GOP Chair Demi Kouzounas issued the following statement ahead of the Bernie Sanders and Tom Perez event in Portland:
“After their party suffered historic losses in Maine’s 2nd District and across the country, Sanders and Perez should focus on offering real solutions to work with Republicans instead of doubling down on obstructionist tactics and far-left rhetoric. Today’s stop in Portland is nothing more than a dog and pony show that fails to address the deep divisions in the Democrat Party.”
AUGUSTA- Maine GOP Executive Director Jason Savage issued the following statement on the confirmation of Judge Neil Gorsuch:
“Despite the efforts of newly-minted liberal Democrat Angus King, the American people have a ninth Supreme Court Justice who will protect the Constitution and the rights of the American people.
“I would also like to commend Senator Susan Collins for her thoughtful support of Judge Gorsuch and her steadfast opposition to Senator Schumer’s filibuster.
“I am beyond pleased with the actions of the Senate in this past week. Judge Neil Gorsuch is a highly qualified individual who will uphold the law while respecting and defending the Constitution. Today, we saw a successful effort to maintain the integrity of the U.S. Senate and proof that extreme liberals cannot bully Americans and our government.
"Lastly, I would like to congratulate President Trump for choosing such a respected and qualified individual for the Supreme Court."
AUGUSTA- This past week Senator King announced that he will not support Judge Neil Gorsuch for Supreme Court and that he will aid Senator Chuck Schumer in his unethical filibuster.
Maine GOP Executive Director Jason Savage reiterated his disappointment with Maine’s newly-minted liberal Democrat Senator, "I find it to be incredibly sad and insulting that Senator King is playing liberal Democrat Partisan games with New York Democrat Senator Chuck Schumer."
"Senator King has shown his true colors, he is not an independent in the least, whether that be an independent thinker or independent legislator," Savage continued. "By siding with liberal Democrats, Senator King has placed himself far to the left of moderate Democrats in the U.S. Senate supporting Judge Gorsuch."
AUGUSTA- Today Senator King announced that he will not support Judge Neil Gorsuch for Supreme Court.
Maine GOP Executive Director Jason Savage expressed his deep disappointment, "Today, Senator King abandoned his so called 'Independent' label by siding with New York Democrat Senator Chuck Schumer."
"Senator King's statement opposing Judge Gorsuch is laced with partisan Democrat talking points and lacking in honesty," Savage continued. "With this position, Senator King has placed himself far to the left of moderate Democrats in the U.S. Senate supporting Judge Gorsuch."
