AUGUSTA – The Maine Republican Party today announced that Governor Chris Christie has qualified for the March 5, 2016 Presidential Nominating Caucus Ballot.
Governor Christie, the two-term Governor of New Jersey, submitted his filing to the Maine Republican Party on December 4, 2015.
Governor Christie, whose straight talk with the people of New Jersey about the challenges his state faces earned him two terms as a Republican Governor in a blue state, is no stranger to Maine. In fact, Governor Christie's dedication to supporting Governor Paul LePage was a major factor in Governor LePage winning re-election with the most votes for Governor in Maine history.
“Governor Christie has been a great friend and ally to Maine Republicans,” said Maine GOP Chairman Rick Bennett. “Governor Christie's support and belief in our efforts last November played a huge part in our ability to re-elect Governor LePage, and make gains for Republicans across Maine. For that support, we are forever grateful to Governor Christie. It is clear that Governor Christie's determination to identify and solve problems without pulling punches will be a great asset among Maine voters.”
"I've traveled to Maine many times over the last few years with my friend Governor LePage and know what an honor it is to be on the ballot in this important state,” said Governor Christie. “Over the next few months, I will continue to work hard on the campaign trail to talk to voters in Maine and across the country about the tough issues our country faces like America’s role in the world, our entitlement crisis and the addiction epidemic to earn their support.”
The Maine GOP Presidential Nominating Caucus will be held Saturday, March 5th, from 9 AM until 7 PM at sites across the state of Maine. Candidates will compete for a direct allocation of delegate votes to the Republican National Convention in Cleveland, Ohio, where the Republican candidate for President of the United States will be officially nominated.
