WARNING: MAINE GOP ISSUES ALERT TO MAINE PRESS, CONSERVATIVE ACTIVISTS ABOUT DARK MONEY OPERATIVE PRETENDING TO BE MEMBER OF PRESS
AUGUSTA – The Maine GOP issued an alert to the Maine press and conservative activists across Maine about an extreme liberal dark-money activist who has taken to masquerading as a member of the Maine press in attempts to disrupt and play dirty tricks on conservatives and Republicans.
The activist, Mike Tipping, serves as the communications director for the Maine People's Alliance, a 'non-profit' group that refuses to disclose the names of their donors.
“Twice in recent weeks, Mike Tipping has attended events masquerading as a member of the Maine press,” said Maine GOP Executive Director Jason Savage. “This is an absolutely dishonest thing for Mr. Tipping to do. Mr. Tipping's group is the election arm of the Democratic Party in Maine, and Mr. Tipping is one of their most active attack dogs. He is no more a reporter or journalist than I am.”
The Maine press needs to be aware that when Mr. Tipping is standing among them at an event, shouting questions during interviews and trying to throw Republican events into chaos, it reflects poorly on the hard-working reporters trying to cover a story for their audience.
Mr. Savage suggested that Mr. Tipping and his dark-money group are running out of dirty tricks and desperate to remain relevant in a state that has been turning increasingly conservative,“I've seen Mr. Tipping take some cheap shots during my time in Maine politics, but after watching us defeat Democrats up and down the ticket, Mr. Tipping's latest trick reeks of desperation. “
“With only one Democrat incumbent remaining above the state legislative level, and Democrats in a position to lose the Maine House, I have to believe Mr. Tipping must be worried the dark-money gravy train to his group is about to come to an end,” Mr. Savage said. “These dark-money donors won't keep funding Mr. Tipping forever if Democrats continue to lose ground, and after the past two years, they are running out of ground. It must be frustrating for Mr. Tipping.”
“If Mike Tipping can masquerade as a reporter while working for a dark-money group that runs attack ads and canvassing operations, so can I,” said Mr. Savage. “If Mr. Tipping can identify as, and act as, a reporter, for the sake of partisan political attacks, don't be surprised if you see me with a list of tough questions and a camcorder at an Emily Cain press conference in the near future.”
Republican and conservative activists are cautioned to be aware that this person is not a member of the Maine press, but an extreme liberal activist funded with dark-money contributions, who is desperate to stop the advance of Republicans in Maine. Mr. Tipping should not be treated as a member of the press at their events.
