DRAFT 2018 Maine GOP Platform
Maine Republican Party Platform
Generations of Americans have valiantly fought to preserve the Republic, our freedoms, and the American way of life. We appreciate and honor the service of active duty and reserve military, veterans, fire fighters, law enforcement, first responders and EMTs, and all those who serve our state and nation. It is only by restoring the three primary core values of the United States of America, which are Liberty, In God We Trust, and E Pluribus Unum, that we can ensure moral and economic Recovery.
I. This platform embraces principles and identifies actions to implement them.
In order to define the specific policies encompassed by said constitutional principles, be it resolved:
II. The government of Maine exists to preserve and protect certain natural, inherent and inalienable rights endowed by our Creator for the benefit, protection and security of all citizens and future generations. To maintain these rights, we therefore pledge to:
III. Because the strength of Maine and the United States lies with the rights and responsibilities of the individual, we affirm that:
V. The most effective government is closest to the people and the least intrusive, therefore:
VI. Education is the cornerstone to building a lasting prosperity within our future, therefore:
VII. The family is the foundation and strength of a stable society; therefore, the government must not interfere, but rather support and protect the integrity and rights of the family, therefore:
VIII. Fiscal restraint and accountability for all levels of government is paramount through:
IX. Moving forward Maine Republicans support the following initiatives, therefore:
Persistent vigilance by the people is necessary to preserve our American values. It is therefore incumbent on all of us to stay informed and involved in the American experience of self-governance. Those of us who have united behind the Republican banner invite you to join us in this task and support the Republican candidates for office that uphold these principles.

Chair Kouzounas says “better jobs & bigger paychecks” for Maine
people will result
AUGUSTA – The Maine Republican Party released the following statement from Party Chair Dr. Demi Kouzounas today in response to the release of the Republican framework for Federal tax reform.
“President Trump's leadership in pushing for tax reform to benefit Maine's middle class is exactly the right approach,” said Dr. Kouzounas. “This proposal will create better jobs and bigger paychecks for middle-class Mainers, and help communities struggling with weaker economies rise above the obstacles they face.”
“President Trump promised reform that was simple and fair, and Republicans have delivered,” continued Dr. Kouzounas. “The Maine people have struggled with a complicated and rigged tax code for far too long. The time for reform is now, the plan to grow our economy, un-rig the system, and make sure Mainers keep more of their hard-earned money is this one.”

Governor directs Maine County Sheriffs to comply with ICE illegal alien detention requests
AUGUSTA – Maine Republican Party Chair Dr. Demi Kouzounas released the following statement today in appreciation of Governor LePage's directive to Maine's county sheriffs directing them to comply with detention requests from ICE.
“We appreciate Governor LePage's expectation and directive that Maine's county sheriffs work with the federal government to comply with detention requests for individuals who are not in the United States legally,” said Chair Kouzounas.
“The Governor's letter makes clear that he has the authority to issue this directive, and it is the right thing to do,” added Dr. Kouzounas. “As a party, we have deep respect for our county sheriffs, who keep Maine people safe across Maine, and we hope that all sixteen sheriffs across Maine will work with ICE and the federal government to comply with these requests.”
“Let us not forget, we are talking about individuals who are not in our country legally, and who are currently being detained by law enforcement after breaking our laws,” said Dr. Kouzounas.
“This is about keeping our streets safe for the people of Maine,” continued Dr. Kouzounas. “One or two Maine sheriffs should not put our system in peril because they wish to not obey our laws and constitution, and instead put illegal immigrants who are in custody ahead of safety and the rule of law.”
“Our team stands ready to support the sheriffs who work to protect Maine people, and to make sure that the rare sheriff who refuses to comply has to find a new line of work.”

AUGUSTA- Maine GOP Chair Kouzounas issued the following statement on DACA being rescinded:
"DACA was an unconstitutional executive action from the beginning.
"We are a nation of laws, this is an unavoidable truth.
"Maine GOP is pro immigration, so long as the proper steps are taken to obtain legal citizenship.
We hope that Congress will assist President Trump's goal of securing our nation's borders as any immigration legislation is considered."
AUGUSTA- Today, the Maine GOP is excited to announce the hiring of Rebecca Telega and Justin Davis as Regional Field Directors for the upcoming 2018 Cycle due to the historic partnership with the Republican National Committee.
“We are living in historic times in our country, and that’s why it’s so important for us to keep the Blaine House in November and compete for new seats up and down the ticket, and Rebecca and Justin will help us do just that,” said Jason Savage, Executive Director of the Maine GOP. “Maine is moving in the right direction thanks to Governor LePage and the Republican reform agenda which has led to record unemployment, higher wages, and less government.”
“With Rebecca and Justin, we’ve not only hired two people that bring a fire and passion for politics, but also, and perhaps most importantly, a deep-rooted love for Maine and our people.”
BACKGROUND ON REBECCA TELEGA
Rebecca Telega started as an academic intern for the Maine Republican Party and quickly became a rising star in the party due to her work ethic and skills as an organizer. This experience helped pave her success as a Field Representative for the Maine GOP Freedom 14’ Damariscotta Office in 2014 and as Field Director for the Maine Republican Party in the highly successful 2016 Cycle.
“I feel honored to have been given such a great new opportunity. The staff of the Maine GOP work tirelessly in their efforts to benefit the people of Maine, and I’m so happy that I get to continue to be a part of that alongside Chair Kouzounas, Jason, and the rest Maine GOP staff,” said Telega.
BACKGROUND ON JUSTIN DAVIS
Justin Davis brings loads of experience though his work with Senator Susan Collins. As a former Caseworker and Staff Assistant to the Senator and a Field Representative for Senator Collins’ 2014 re-election campaign, Justin demonstrated a work ethic and energy matched by few. Prior to joining the GOP, Justin served as Clerk on the House Committee on Natural Resources in Washington D.C.
“I’m excited to come home and be a part of Maine’s success by working with Republican activists and candidates across Maine. Chair Kouzounas and Jason have brought real leadership that’s easy for all of us at the Maine GOP to get behind because of their commitment to winning and improving the lives of the hard-working Maine people,” said Davis.
Justin and Rebecca will both assume their new positions on September 1st, 2017.
AUGUSTA- Maine GOP Chair Kouzounas issued the following statement following Mark Eves' speech at a Maine People's Alliance event:
"This is yet another revelation that Maine Democrats are sadly more focused on the color of people's skin than the content of their character.
"Maine people are looking for answers on issues such as jobs, taxes, the state budget, energy costs and welfare reform, and Mark Eves is instead focusing on the color of our resident's skin and identity politics.
"Maine voters see through the cynical identity politics of liberal Democrats like Mark Eves."
