Focused on balancing budget, reducing taxes and a strong national defense, Kasich looks forward to Maine contest AUGUSTA – The Maine Republican Party this morning announced that Ohio Governor John Kasich is the first Republican candidate for President of the United States to officially qualify for the Maine Nominating Caucus ballot.
"Maine is home to common-sense conservatives who recognize the importance of a balanced budget, lower taxes and a strong national defense. I look forward to earning their support in the Caucus," said Governor Kasich. “We are so very pleased to welcome Governor Kasich to the Presidential contest in Maine as the first candidate to officially qualify for the ballot,” said Maine GOP Chairman Rick Bennett. “Not long ago, Governor Kasich was in Maine working to build support for a balanced federal budget, and we support those efforts. It is my honor, as Chairman, to welcome Governor Kasich, an accomplished, and tremendously hard-working leader, to the race.” Kasich's entry into Maine's contest comes just 6 days after the Maine GOP officially announced the caucus date and rules. The Maine GOP Presidential Nominating Caucus will be held Saturday, March 5th, from 9 AM until 7 PM at sites across the state of Maine. Candidates will compete for a direct allocation of delegate votes to the Republican National Committee Convention in Cleveland, Ohio, where the Republican candidate for President of the United States will be officially nominated.
